Welcome to Keykas Alaskan Malamutes
Our brand new website full of information about our loved alaskan malamutes, owned by Sergio and Charlene. We will be updating this website on a regular basis to keep you informed about the progress of our boys and our intentions for the future.
How did it all start?
Both of us left our native countries, Portugal and Malta, and came to England for an exciting short experience. When we met, dogs were certainly not on our minds. Neither of us us dealt with dogs in our past. However on Charlene 's 24th birthday, she asked for a different present, which was a dog. I started my research as this idea sounded exciting to me and I was hooked up to this website where they were selling alaskan malamutes. I fell in love with this dog, until then, I never even heard of the breed of Alaskan Malamutes. Charlene was even more excited and after sleepless nights and lots of reseach to ensure that the breed suits our lifestyle, we decided to go for this cute little puppy from Wales. We only thought we were buying a nice little pet.
When the 27th July 2007 arrived, we had a sleepless night, as our new dog was being driven all the way down from Wales to come and join our family. It was an amazing surprise when we saw him, a small little bear much cutier than we thought he would be. We decided to call him KASKAE, which means "chief" in Alaskan.
Kaskae's pedigree name is PRINCE MARSHALL. This was the name which was given to him by the breeder, Mrs Nery's Davies. We bought his 5 Generation Pedigree Certificate from the Kennel Club, which we hung up on a wall and left there just for show.
Crufts 2008 was on telly and both of us were watching it, when all of a sudden a copy of a dog's pedigree came in front of the screen. The presenter was explaining what the colour codes on the pedigree mean. Both of us went running to check our pedigree and to our surprise, we realised that Kaskae had quite a few champions in his family. We did our research about the world of dog showing and we decided to give it a go.
The Alaskan Malamute Club Show was coming up and we went. We parked beside a young Scottish couple, Charlie and Lesley and in a few minutes we were best buddies. They took time to explain to us what to expect in the ring as we didnt have a clue. Ms Sharon Loades was the judge on that day and she awarded Kaskae 3rd in Junior class and 2nd in Yearling Class. That was the beginning of our great hobby and we never looked back after that show.
This year is our 2nd year of dog showing so we are very new to this hobby. However in these two years we made some fantastic friends and we have a great time when we go to the shows.
We are members of THE ALASKAN MALAMUTE CLUB of THE UNITED KINGDOMand we as members undertake to abide by the Code of Ethics.
FUTURE OF KEYKAS KENNELS
As every malamute lover told us, once you have one malamute, its a garantee that you will have two and more. So we decided that Kaskae needs a companion. After doing our research and talking to malamute owners in the showing business, we decided to go for another dog, this time from the lines of King from IVRAM KENNELS ( MLA ) and Annie from POLARNI USVIT KENNELS ( CZE ). We chose a great puppy, K'eyush, that has arrived in the UK March 2010. We would like to say a big thank you to Jana Hynkova and Ivan Calleja for allowing us to have such a nice boy...
